Enhancing Byron Elementary's Outdoor Facilities

David Wenzlick

Gross Construction is proud to have recently completed an update to the outdoor facilities at Byron Elementary School. This project was designed to enhance the safety and functionality of the school's exterior spaces, providing a better environment for both education and play.

Our work began with the demolition of the existing asphalt parking lot, concrete walkways, basketball court, and some chain link fencing. This clear-out was essential to make room for the new installations and upgrades.

We balanced the site and laid a new aggregate base that serves as the foundation for the new parking lot, sidewalks, and basketball court. Following this, we placed 6" of concrete for the new parking lot, ensuring a durable and long-lasting surface that can withstand daily school traffic and Michigan's variable weather conditions.

In addition to the structural work, new light poles were installed to improve visibility and safety during evening events and after-school programs. The parking lot was then striped, and a new fence was installed, enhancing security.

The playground area received particular attention with new concrete sidewalks and a completely renovated basketball court, including fresh playground striping to encourage active play among students.

This project for Byron Elementary School not only revitalized its infrastructure but also transformed the school grounds into a more welcoming and functional space for students to learn and play.
